London - Frankfurt high speed link gets a step closer

The European Railways Agency is expected to back proposals to use new Siemens trains to run through the Channel Tunnel in order to connect London and Frankfurt.

France had raised concerns about possible safety issues relating to the use of the trains (at the same time pushing for a French manufacturer instead).

If the plans go ahead (which hopefully they will!), services could be running between the two cities by the end of 2013, expanding rail capacity between London and the rest of Europe by 10%. For the full story, visit The Guardian.
