United Kingdom

The cheapest way to buy tickets for travel in the United Kingdom is directly through the rail operators in question. Before you do that though, you may want to check National Rail Enquiries for timetable information, and also to use their Cheap Fare Finder.

The Trainline

The Trainline offers an excellent UK rail booking system, with customers saving an average of 43% if they book in advance. They also have an excellent cheap fare finder, which is great if you don't mind too much what day or time you travel. The only down-side is that they charge a small booking fee if you choose to buy your tickets with them.
