Domestic train services in Bosnia and Herzegovina are split between ZFBH and ZRS. ZFBH operates in the Muslim-Croat Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Train tickets for ZFBH services can be booked up to one month in advance, but only from station ticket offices or through authorised travel agencies. Tickets have varying periods of validity depending on the distance of the journey:
Single tickets are valid for one day (journeys up to 100km in length), two days (up to 400km) or 4 days (over 400km). Return tickets are valid for one day (journeys up to 50km), two days (up to 100km), and six days (over 100km). Passengers may break their journey as long as their complete journey is still within the period of validity, and as long as the distance is over 100km (verification must be sought from the break station). Single journeys below 100km in length may also be broken, but only once, whereas return journeys of less than 100km may be broken twice.
ZFBH trains are generally relatively old. The faster and international routes tend to operate more comfortable trains, but do not expect first class standards of accommodation.
