Students travel for free to Ireland this year

Stena Line have today launched a brand new promotion that lets students travel for free with one fare paying adult. The deal is that as many students as you like can travel for free with one adult passenger and car. That means that you can travel to or from Ireland from £69 one-way.

Bookings are valid between 31st August and 16th December, and will generally need to be booked 28 days in advance. All tickets for travel must be booked by 18th October. Most mid-week journeys are included, so why not take a trip to Ireland this summer!

You can book tickets direct with Stena Line here.

Rosyth to Zeebrugge ferry route to be closed from December

After 18 months of operation, Scotland's only direct link to Europe is to be closed due to low passenger numbers. Launched last May, the route between Rosyth and Zeebrugge was originally operated by Norfolkline, and more recently DFDS. The passenger route will continue to operate until December 15th. After that, a freight only route will operate between Fife and Belgium. High ticket prices have been blamed by some as being the reason for low occupancy. If only suitable subsidies had been put in place!

So, from next year, if you are planning on travelling from Scotland to Europe without flying, your best route will probably be via London on the Eurostar, or through Harwich on the ferry.
