Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan, the ninth largest country in the world, is not known for its historical sites, but rather for its stunning desolate landscape. It borders Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. Although it isn't that easy to reach directly, Kazakhstan plays an integral role in the famous Silk Route, more about which can be read elsewhere on this website.
