Monterosso
Monterosso al Mare is one of the five towns that make up Italy's Cinque Terre. It is the only one of the five that has extensive beaches. It is a town of two halves, with one being the old town and one being the newer town. The two are separated by a headland, so to get from one to the other you can either pass through a tunnel or take a short walk along a coastal path.
The local train service that runs between the Cinque Terre also runs through Monterosso, allowing visitors to reach the other four Cinque Terre towns in a matter of minutes. Services also run to Genoa, La Spezia and Pisa.
Walking is the best method of transport around the town, and cars aren't really necessary.
